It takes a special kind of person to get into Community Association Management. Nobody ever said as a kid, “I want to be a CAM Professional when I grow up!” Jeff Hardy started out like many of our clients.
As a homeowner, he felt that his community association's board of directors needed to do a better job. Jeff thought, “I can do that.” So he joined the board.
When his association decided to seek new management, Jeff thought, “I can do that,” and he started a management company in his living room.
At first, he kept his day job in accounting for a Fortune 500 company, but he soon had a large enough portfolio that he could afford to support his wife and two small sons.
As his portfolio swelled to over 90 communities, Jeff realized that his profits were being stifled by the large number of staff he had to keep on board. A lot of his staff were doing repetitive tasks and double entry of data due to the inadequate and disassociated tools they had.
He realized that they needed a technological solution designed specifically for community associations. But such tools simply didn't exist in 1979.
Unable to find the solution he was looking for, Jeff decided, “I can do that.” So he set out to create a software that was specific to community association management. That software later became TOPS.
How did TOPS become the CAM industry standard for software? Simple. We learned over the years to give customers what they need in order to do their jobs better and to make the software easy to understand and use.Jeff Hardy, Founder
30 years went by, and Jeff's small sons grew up, surrounded by the community association industry, and the TOPS product. Today, Jeff has retired. But his sons work to continue the legacy their father built. The oldest, Mike Hardy, took over as CEO of TOPS in 2013.
One of the first actions Mike took was to travel the country, talking to CAM Professionals to learn how the industry had changed and how their technological needs had changed as a result.
Based on that information, Mike spearheaded the development of a brand new TOPS - one that would once again revolutionize the CAM industry and help to make Management Companies more profitable and more successful at keeping their clients happy.
This new application, TOPS [ONE], is the culmination of 30 years learned under Jeff's wisdom, combined with feedback from hundreds of CAM professionals, driven by the hunger of a son eager to continue his family legacy. We are focused on creating a software that is not only livable, but lovable.
