In celebration of our 16th birthday, Jeff Hardy sat down
and created a timeline documenting the many accomplishments of TOPS
Software. Please join us in celebration of all of the hard work
that brought us to where we are now: We've come a long way, baby!

1977 |
Jeff Hardy begins a property management
company |
| 1979 |
Jeff Hardy begins work on management
software in his home at night with a neighbor. |
| 1980 |
The first version of TOPS starts being
used at the management company on a TRS-80 model II running
off 8" floppy disks. |
| 1983 |
Jeff hires Kerry Wilson to port the
software over to a unix server for the management company
to begin using. Jeff & Kerry decide to form a
partnership to complete the development of TOPS. A new company
is started as a partnership. |
| 1984 |
The new company purchases the source
code for RealWorld accounting programs to integrate into TOPS |
| October,
1984 |
TOPS is shown for the first time at
a CAI National conference in Philadelphia and garners much interest. |
| July, 1985 |
The software is ported from unix to
an IBM PC running DOS. |
| August,
1985 |
TOPS, with the newly integrated accounting
modules, is released for DOS and unix with RealWorld version
3.0 |

1985 |
The first sale of TOPS is made to
a management company running a unix system. In 5 days at the
customer's office, Jeff logs 81 hours and Kerry logs 79 hours
(he went back to the hotel for a 2 hour nap) trying to get the
software running. |

October 22nd, the company incorporates

1990 |
TOPS releases new version 4.0 with
RealWorld Accounting version 4.0. |
| June, 1992 |
Full color screens released in version
4.0 TOPS. |

TOPS sells 100th system. |
| June, 1993 |
TOPS releases new version 6.5 with
RealWorld Accounting version 6.5. |

TOPS releases TOPS Lite for single
communities. |

purchases Promaster, it's largest competitor. |
