For those of you who have been following the TOPS PCAM Scholarship program, we are pleased to announce the 2011 winner, Karen Murphy from The Case Bowen Company!
Among the hundreds of amazing essays we received, Karen's essay impressed the TOPS executives above the rest. "Karen’s dedication to the community management industry and her hard work epitomize the best attributes of a community manager and made her a great choice for this inaugural award,” said Mike Hardy, Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
Here is an excerpt from the winning entry:
I have chosen to be a property manager as a career path, as opposed to just a job. I want to be the best property manager I can be; and to do so, I need to continue to educate myself and keep up to date on all aspects of property management. Obtaining my PCAM designation was an important part of this process to be the best I can be.
As with anything else, I did not pass on my first attempts to obtain this high designation. Rather than burying my head in the sand, I persevered and took the course again and obtained my PCAM. I refused to accept "not passing" as an option for me.
The award was announced this past weekend at the annual CAI National Conference in Boca Raton, Florida. Owner Jeff Hardy and Vice President Mike Hardy presented the award in the form of an oversized check. Karen Murphy, who says she’s not normally at a loss for words, was “speechless” when she had found out that she won.

We will be continuing the TOPS PCAM Scholarship into next year. The scholarship will be open to all candidates that will receive their PCAM designation at the 2012 CAI National Conference in Las Vegas Nevada. At present, the scholarship page is closed to new submissions, but stay tuned for later this year when we will be opening the scholarship to new applicants.
