The Incredible Disappearing Budget

Have you ever printed an Income/Expense statement, and the budget amounts are either missing or just plain wrong? Don't worry; you can use this magic trick to bring them out of hiding.

But I didn't do it

Actually, if you have NEVER entered a budget then no, you probably didn't do it (feel free to point fingers). If you have ever entered budgets EVER, then yes, you may have miss-keyed something (probably while you were distracted, after scalding your mouth on that first cup of coffee) and now your budgets are playing hide & seek.

They are there, but are most likely living under an assumed name such as "PREVIOUS YEAR" OR "FUTURE YEAR" instead of "CURRENT YEAR" where they are supposed to be.

And the Lady Becomes a Tiger

This is when you realize how organized TOPS Software really is. Ready?

1. Click on the GL button, and then click on the "Chart of Acct" tab.
2. Bring up ANY budgeted account number.
3. On the screen click the "Budget" button. A new screen will appear; more magic, and now you are going to notice the "Budget Year" at the top of the box.
4. Check to make sure the Budget Year is set to the current year and the amounts and dates are set up correctly.
5. Finally make sure the report is printing the budgeted amounts from that year and NOT the previous or future year. If NOT, then look to the bottom of the box for the "Utilities" button.
   
   There are several options on this screen BUT BE CAREFUL! Once you click, there is no going back without a BACKUP! Choose the option you need and go forth and conquer.
