In the Pipeline at TOPS
TOPS Software's development team has been hard at work on developing
new technologies that can help make your life easier, and your work
more efficient. The following programs have just been released,
or are scheduled for release within the next month:
- New Reports Engine - The conversion to the
new reporting engine is nearly completed! Over 250 accounting
reports have been converted to the new Active Reports engine.
What's exciting about this new engine is that all standard reports
may now be natively printed to Email, TOPS Interactive Web Sites,
PDF, DOC, CSV, and more! The new report engine uses variable sized
fonts (instead of fixed width fonts), which makes the report text
appear clearer and more legible.
The new reports are available under the standard report mode (Use
Classic Report Mode should be turned off). These new reports replace
the reports that were released with TOPS v3.2.1™.
The new reporting engine encompasses all accounting reports from
Owners, AR, GL, AP, and Check Rec, except posting reports. It
also includes Gate Security and Pool Pass reports. The conversion
for CC&R and Work Order reports should be completed and made
available on the updater later this month. The New Reports
are Available Now on the TOPS Internet Updater!
- TOPS Calendar/Scheduler - The new Calendar/Scheduler
program will be released early next month. This program is truly
global, allowing you to keep track of tasks for all of your communities,
as well as your personal calendar, even allowing you to show only
calendar items that you need at the moment, such as the Next Inspect
date for all open CC&R records. The scheduler has an all new
wizard that allows you to easily define scheduled events on the
recurring schedule of your choice. You can even schedule preventive
maintenance tasks that can later be turned into a Work Order with

Calendar/Scheduler will be available only for TOPS v3.2.1™
users with an active Maintenance Support Plan. The new program
will be released on the TOPS Internet Updater soon.
- Global AP - The redesign of the Global AP
feature is almost complete. This new design was triggered by customer
requests to make a more user friendly version of the Global AP
functionality. We think you will be pleasantly surprised by the
result. In addition to the new design, the new Global AP will
allow you to:
- Preview all open invoices for all communities in a tree view.
- Choose the community and vendor for an invoice on the Enter
Bills screen. (This allows you to change the community or vendor
on the fly!)
- Choose from a range of options to create a new invoice whenever
an invoice is entered. For example, duplicate the invoice you
just created or create a new invoice with the same vendor but
a different community.
- Change a standard bill to a recurring bill with a single
click.
- Preview all open bills for all communities in a tree view
that includes the total amount of selected bills, as well as
the balance of the primary bank account for each community.
Double click to drill down and easily choose which bills should
be paid.
The redesigned Global AP will be available only for TOPS v3.2.1™
users with the Global Module and an active Maintenance Support
Plan. The new program will be released on the TOPS Internet Updater
later this month.
- Mobile PDA Interface for Pocket PC - We have
almost completed a new version of the TOPS Mobile PDA in the .Net
2.0 programming language, with a SQL database back-end. This change
will make compatibility with existing and new Pocket PC models
universal. Also included in this new version is a revamped navigation
system, a more user friendly interface, and the ability to attach
pictures taken on your mobile device to CCR, Work Order and Service
Request records. We have also redesigned the sync program to make
it faster, and more efficient.
The new Mobile PDA interface will be available for Pocket PC users
only. We will continue to support the existing product for Palm
users, but no new development is currently planned for the Palm
OS due to changes in the Palm platform.
The new TOPS Mobile PDA program is scheduled for release in November.
- TOPSSoft.com Online Purchasing - We are nearly
done with our new online purchasing capability. Customers on a
valid Maintenance Support agreement will be able to log in to
the TOPS Online Support Center (http://support.topssoft.com)
to purchase additional keys, workstation licenses, modules, training,
and much more. Online purchasing will be done through a secure
interface, and will be distributed through our Internet Key system
to allow customers to instantly take advantage of the items they
have purchased.
Internet Keys are available to 3.2.1 or On-Site users only. Users
of prior versions of TOPS may still purchase online, but keys
will need to be sent via US Mail.
The new Online Purchasing ability will be made available on the
TOPS Online Support Center in November.
