A Letter From the President:
Staying Ahead of the Technology Curve
In 1979, frustrated with the lack of reliable technologies
for my property management company, I initiated the development
of a new software package to help manage the associations in my
company's portfolio. This package, which later became TOPS, was
so successful for my own management company, that I formed a new
company, TOPS Software, to share this software with other companies
working in the industry.
Since the beginning, one of the things that has always set TOPS
ahead of its competition is the fact that we never stop improving
our products. The version that we released in 1985 was stable, high
tech (for it's time), and user friendly. But we did not stop development
there. We added new features to the software, such as lockbox processing
and ACH Direct Debit as ways to automate cash receipt processing.
We added a check scanning interface that was previously only used
in big department stores and grocery stores, for maximum efficiency
in processing payments still received in the management office.
These features later became industry standards, but we were the
first.
Over the years, TOPS Software has continued to stay ahead of the
technology curve. We converted our DOS product to Windows, another
new and exciting chapter in technology. In our Windows product,
TOPS 2000™, we were the first to offer digital picture imports
into Work Orders and CC&R Violation records, a PDA interface,
integrated community web sites, email functionality, digital signatures
that print automatically on your checks, automated online backups,
automated online software updates, and so much more!
More recently, we have continued to set the trends by developing
such innovative products as online AP approval, a custom report
export utility, maintenance company billing, and a utility billing
module. Additionally, we have partnered with some of the industry
leaders in other areas that affect property management to provide
you with plug-in interfaces to quality products such as ReadyCollect
for law firms to process collections. TOPS Software is the first
industry software company to provide an interface to this incredible
product, which allows a management company to automatically refer
collection cases to their attorney, and later check the status of
those cases through a simple, easy to use online interface. We also
offer interfaces to several online resale document services.
As always, we are not content to rest on our laurels. We are once
again developing our software for a new type of computing that is
not tied down to a single location. Our newest software product,
code named TOPS Viper, is currently in development and should be
available for release in 2006. In the meantime, we will continue
to improve our existing product line with some rather exciting new
technologies, such as a new check scanning system that actually
makes a digital image of each owners' check and saves it to each
owners' history; a phone messaging and scheduler utility that allows
you to track incoming calls from within TOPS 2000™, the ability
to export any report to PDF natively, and a new document management
utility that will allow you to attach any document, including form
letters, to an individual owner's record.
As I have done for more than 20 years, I continue to act as an advocate
for property managers everywhere by insuring that the entire TOPS
team remains committed to taking an already great technology to
new levels. By listening to the voice of our customers and identifying
new technologies, TOPS Software will continue to develop new products
and form strong alliances with other innovative partners to deliver
the best solutions to this industry.
