Files and Folders was a major new feature added to the TOPS Internet Backup Service. As the name implies we added the ability for you to now backup files and folders from your computer to the TOPS Internet Backup servers. Thus providing the same safe environment for your personal data as your TOPS v3.2.1™ data.

We also designed some unique features in Files and Folders which set it apart from conventional back up processes. One such feature is Versioning. Why is versioning important? Backup versioning of your files and folders will save you money by only backing up files that have changed since the last backup. Through Backup Versioning, you may choose to maintain up to 99 versions of a file in a backup group.

When a backup of a group is performed, the Internet Backup Service will check each file in the group to see if it has been altered since the last backup. If it has, a new version of just that file will be backed up, and stored under the last modified date. In this way, you reduce the amount of storage space that you utilize because you are not backing up the exact same version of each file over and over again.

Restoring the files and folders you have backed up is as easy as browsing your computer. Each backup group is represented as a folder in the restore window's tree view. Clicking the plus to expand the group will reveal the path of the sub folders from which each file originated on your computer. Each version of a backed up file is referenced by the date it was altered, so that you can choose to restore only a single version of one file, or you can restore the most recent version of each file in the group.
